Hay, which feeds the livestock, is the No. 1 crop, providing two percent of cash sales.  Other crops include apples, corn for grain, soybeans, tobacco, peaches, and wheat.  Nationally, the state ranks No. 10 for apples, No. 12 for trout, No. 14 for turkeys, and No. 15 for peaches.

Now home to about 2 million residents, the “Mountain State” was founded as the 35th state in 1863.  The capital and largest city is Charleston (pop. 53,421).  The State Bird is Cardinal, State Tree Sugar Maple, State Fruit Golden Delicious Apple, and State Flower Rhododendron.
