Kentucky Land Auction, Kentucky Real Estate, Lexington Horse Farms

Situated in the Upland South, Midwest, and Appalachia, Kentucky land auctions offer buyers a bit of the “Unbridled Spirit” of the Southern lifestyle if they are the highest bidders on Kentucky real estate.  Auctioneers conduct property evaluations for sellers who realize that with the advent of the Internet and online auctions, Kentucky real estate auctions are increasingly fruitful marketing and sales tool.

Lexington horse farms breed some of the finest racehorses anywhere, hence the Kentucky Derby.  Tobacco, corn, soybeans, wheat, fruit, hogs, cattle, dairy products, and whiskey are among the agricultural items produced on Kentucky farmlands.  In addition to agriculture outputs, industrial outputs include transportation equipment, chemical products, electric equipment, machinery, food processing, tobacco products, coal, and tourism. Some of the most productive coalmines in the nation are in The Eastern Kentucky Coal Fields.

Kentucky real estateRural Kentucky maintains a farm-based economy, with cattle, corn, and soybeans being the main crops. Breeding Thoroughbred racehorses is successful because of high calcium content in the soil.  The average farm size in Kentucky is only 153 acres but the state ranks No. 5 in the nation for number of farms.  It ranks No. 5 for goat farming, No. 8 for beef cattle production, and No. 14 for corn production.

Kentucky also has more navigable miles of water than any other state in the union, other than Alaska. Lake Cumberland is the largest artificial lake, in terms of volume, east of the Mississippi River. Kentucky’s 90,000 miles of streams provides one of the most expansive and complex stream systems in the nation.  It is the only U.S. state to be bordered on three sides by rivers—the Mississippi River to the west, the Ohio River to the north, and the Big Sandy River and Tug Fork to the east.  Its major internal rivers include the Kentucky River, Tennessee River, Cumberland River, Green River and Licking River.

The five primary geographical regions of the state include the Cumberland Plateau in the east, the north-central Bluegrass Region, the south-central and western Pennyroyal Plateau, the Western Coal Fields and the far-west Jackson Purchase. The Bluegrass Region consists of the Inner Bluegrass around Lexington and the Outer Bluegrass, which is the Northern portion above the Knobs in the Eden Shale Hills area where steep, narrow hills are the norm.  The East Kentucky Coal Field is one continuous field with many overlapping seams and the West Kentucky Coal Field is part of the Illinois Basin.

The Bluegrass State consists of 120 counties.  With 1.2 million residents, Louisville is the largest city and Lexington is second largest.  The state is growing along and between Interstates 65 and 75.  Frankfort is the state capital.  Seven states surround the state.  West Virginia lies to the east, Virginia to the southeast, Tennessee to the south, Missouri to the west, Illinois and Indiana to the northwest, and Ohio to the north and northeast.
